Frozen fruit, what do you use it for?
When you think of frozen fruit, you probably quickly think of a healthy smoothie. Not surprisingly, many people buy a blender just to make smoothies with it. But frozen fruit is also widely used in baking recipes and desserts. A good blender that is suitable for frozen fruit is therefore very handy.

- Smoothie-bowl
- Baking recipes
- Desserts (especially vegan desserts often use frozen fruit).
Blender suitable for frozen fruit, what do you pay attention to?
As you can imagine, frozen fruits and vegetables require a lot of power to grind these hard ingredients. The less liquid there is, the harder the blender will have it. You can make a smoothie for drinking with most blenders. But with a smoothie bowl you use a lot less liquid ánd so you need a very powerful blender.
When buying a suitable blender for frozen fruit, pay attention to the following things:
- ice crush function
- powerful blender: here you look at the speed. Preferably above 20,000
- Pulse function: this is useful when the blender has trouble grinding the ingredients.
- To make a smoothie bowl, you need a power blender (see our recommendations below).
For ice cubes and frozen fruit, the smaller in size the less power is needed. So large pieces of ice need a power blender.

My conclusion: blender for frozen fruit
If you make an occasional smoothie and use mainly small pieces of frozen fruit, most blenders will suffice – even the cheaper ones. If you then make a smoothie with frozen banana, it is important that you cut the banana into pieces before putting it in the freezer. If you’re on a budget and can’t afford a powerful blender, you can always let the frozen fruit thaw for a while – but for a banana or ice cubes, of course, that’s less convenient.
If you make smoothies daily and also like a smoothie bowl then we recommend a power blender. These are a bit more expensive, but better suited for smoothies, frozen fruit, ice cubes and for daily use.
