Flour, cocoa powder, pinch of salt….
To prepare these waffles you will need at most 10 minutes. The basic recipe is simple, so you can easily save it and I am curious to know if you will ever use another recipe after trying this one.
- In a bowl, whisk together the following ingredients for your waffles
- Flour
- Cocoa powder
- Brown sugar
- Pinch of baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- Make a well in the center and then add all the wet ingredients to the bowl
- Then mix all the wet ingredients into the dry batter until well blended and smooth.
No 100% smooth batter, suffer from lumps?
It is fine if batter is not completely smooth and it clumps slightly, however, it is better if it becomes a smooth whole.
Variation waffle irons
Waffle irons can vary quite a bit. Therefore, it is recommended that you prepare the waffles according to your waffle iron manufacturer’s instructions. In terms of batter, you should use about ¾ cup per waffle. Some waffle irons require more to cook a waffle. On average, you can bake 4 to 6 waffles.
It is often not necessary with a waffle iron with non-stick coating to use a lot of butter/fat/baking powder.
Bake the dough/ batter until the waffles are golden brown. Put them on a plate and then add any toppings on top. For example, eat these waffles with a scoop of ice cream or melted butter, in addition, eggs with them (during breakfast) are a very good combo!
Another additional tip, heat the waffle iron before mixing, that way the waffle iron will be nice and warm.
Try dark chocolate!
Want to taste those waffles really intensely? Then make the choice for dark chocolate! You have to love it, but if you really want to give that intense chocolate taste to your recipes then dark chocolate is definitely worth trying.
Vanilla extract
Lover of vanilla flavor? Then add some vanilla extract to the waffles. With that, you add that extra vanilla flavor to your ingredients, and it’s a really good combination!
Double batch?
You can make a double batch of these waffles just fine. Then you’ll have some leftovers for the rest of the week. You can store the waffles for several days. In addition, serve these waffles even more delicious with powdered sugar, chocolate syrup or whipped cream, the possibilities are actually endless.

Want to make a Nutella Ganache? Then melt ¼ cup of Nutella in the microwave for between 60 to 60 seconds. Here you then whisk in 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk. After 30 seconds, it will look shiny and smooth.
Cleaning tip: Do it right away
Cleaning is definitely not the most fun job there is, but do it right away. Let the waffle iron cool and start cleaning. A damp cloth is often enough. Otherwise, you’ll get stuck dirt that you won’t get off.
Besides, it is true that hot water gets rid of dirt better, but never use boiling water when cleaning a waffle iron! Some use boiling water for removable plates. However, this only damages the plates and therefore they will last much shorter.
