Heavy tasks in the kitchen such as kneading dough, cutting hard ingredients and mixing them require quite a bit of power. That’s why many people these days opt for a food processor. Some food processors come with accessories such as a dough hook and cutting blades. But this is not the only thing that matters when you go to buy a food processor. Today, we’ll take you through all the things to look out for when buying a new food processor!
#1 Choose quality
Cheap is expensive, a well-known saying that’s definitely appropriate here. A good food processor starts at around 150 dollars. If you’re going to use the food processor daily, and many have that intention, then it’s better to choose to invest a little more instead of trying to save as much as possible. Plus, once you get used to the convenience you’ll start using it more and more, take it from me!
#2 Think about the features you want
Think carefully about what the food processor should be able to do, what do you want to use it for in the kitchen? Then when you have your eye on a food processor, take a look at what functions it has.
- Slicing
- Grating
- Kneading dough
- Beat and mix
- Grinding nuts and spices
- Make sauces and smoothies
#3 The volume of the mixing bowl
The volume of the mixing bowl can make a huge difference. For example:
- A large round mixing bowl for making veggies burgers, for example, requires falafel and dough + grated and sliced ingredients.
- A long bowl is suitable for making sauces and soups, and then again the small round mixing bowl is more suitable for smaller quantities.
- The very smallest bowls are for spices etc.
If you often make dishes with many types of ingredients that are a bit larger, or make food for several guests, then a large mixing bowl is important. If this is not applicable then a small mixing bowl is also fine.
#4 Think carefully about how big the food processor should/can be
Do you want a food processor that you can store, or do you want it on the countertop? How much space do you have left on your countertop? Think carefully about how big the machine should or should not be. Look carefully at the dimensions in the product descriptions and consider whether the size is big enough or right too big for your kitchen. And if you want to be able to store it also see if this is possible.
#5 Choose dishwasher safe parts
Choose parts that can go in the dishwasher, this is not a given with all food processors. If you have to wash them by hand, chances are the parts won’t get completely clean. If you can just put them in the dishwasher it will obviously save a lot of time and energy.
