Sometimes it can be annoying to clean the food processor. We enjoy it a lot and use it constantly, but all the chopping, dicing and mincing leaves a lot of food residue, and there is nothing you can do about it. Cleaning is a must. Not only so your food stays tasty, but also so the appliance lasts longer. It is really important to clean it properly yourself. Today I will give you some tips on how to best clean your food processor.
How to proceed.
There are a few things you need to get your food processor clean properly:
- Nylon brush
- A sponge
- Mild detergent
- Parts apart
A food processor has several parts that you can separate from each other. It goes without saying that you need to take it apart to get all the parts as clean as possible. You take off the top, remove the pusher unit, take off the blade and remove the bowl from the motor. There can be food residue in each of these parts and you can only get it clean if everything is separated.
The knife you put aside, it needs special care if you want it to last as long as possible.
Wash all removable parts
You should always wash all removable parts of a food processor separately with warm water and mild detergent. You can soak them in warm water for a while if you don’t want to wash them right away. Never scrub these parts with scouring pads. All removable parts except the blade can be washed in the dishwasher.
Wiping the engine
Use a wet/damp cloth to wipe down the motor. It goes without saying that you absolutely must not let this unit come into contact with water. Just wipe off whatever is necessary. If stubborn stains occur, a mild detergent or baking soda can often get rid of the stain.
Make sure everything is dry and assemble the food processor
Dry all parts carefully and thoroughly. Put the food processor back together and store it. If you use it regularly, it’s obviously best to store it on your kitchen counter or some other place that is accessible.
A few more bonus tips!
Sometimes just the basic method isn’t quite enough. That’s why I like to give you some bonus tips!
- When your food processor starts to smell, mix baking soda with water and put it in the bowl. Let it sit in the bowl for around 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it out. This will absorb the smell
- A nylon brush will help clean the blade without risking cutting yourself. For the other tubes, it may be best to use a wire brush that can get all the way into the tube.
- Make sure you dry all the pieces really well. Otherwise, bacteria will still get into your food processor, and that’s exactly what you want to avoid with cleaning it.
