It is no secret that we are big fans of blenders. They are affordable, multifunctional and easy to use. These days, most households have at least one blender in the kitchen cupboard. In case you are not yet convinced, here are 8 advantages to buying a blender.

8 advantages of a blender

Whether you buy a blender from a few tenners or a professional blender: it is always a good asset – it makes it possible to make smoothies, sauces and soups. So we are big fans of blenders and below you can read why.

Advantage #1: a blender is time-saving

Making a sauce with a mortar and pestle? That requires quite a bit of effort and you’ll never get it as fine as with a blender. Within 2 and 5 minutes, most ingredients are finely ground. Want to make a smoothie? You pour the blender full and a few minutes later your smoothie is ready.

Advantage #2: a blender is easy to clean

You rinse a blender under the tap after use. With most ingredients, a blender is easy to clean by rinsing the parts under the tap. You do have to be careful with the blades at the bottom of the blender. It is most convenient if you choose a blender holder where you can twist off the bottom.

Most blenders have dishwasher-safe parts, but this is something to check beforehand.

It also keeps the countertop clean during use – something that is not always the case with slow juicers, which are also much harder to clean at the same time.

Benefit #3: incredibly versatile

The main reason why a blender is indispensable our view is for its versatility. While many people think you only use a blender for a smoothie, there is, however, much more you can do. For instance, you can use a blender to make sauces, soups, vegetable milk and frozen desserts. Depending on the included accessories, you can also use a blender for a nut paste or for grinding herbs.

Benefit #4: all the fibre is preserved

Whereas with a slow juicer, all fibres are lost, you grind the pulp with a blender, so all fibres are preserved. Especially when you’re short on fibre, it’s better to opt for a smoothie than a juice.

Benefit #5: easier to get your daily fruit and vegetables

In practice, it still sometimes turns out to be difficult to get enough fruit and vegetables. This is understandable, but not really healthy. We don’t need to tell you that consuming fruit and vegetables is incredibly important and that a blender makes this easier. For example, you can make a smoothie with fruit and leafy vegetables when you would never eat that much fruit or vegetables otherwise.

Benefit #6: Easier to avoid processed foods

The hummus or pesto you buy in the supermarket often contain a lot of preservatives. So does a pasta sauce from the supermarket, not to mention the added sugars. Once you get used to using a blender, you will discover how easy it is to make homemade sauces, soups or condiments. Take it from us: this is one much tastier and two much healthier.

Benefit #7: little waste

If you make carrot juice, you will soon need 2 – 3 carrots to make one. Quite a waste, as only the juice is extracted and the fibres are often thrown away. With a blender, you use everything and because everything is ground so finely, you don’t need to peel vegetables either. Except for an orange, that is.

Advantage #8: blenders are affordable

For less than a few tenners you can buy a fine blender. These blenders are fine for soft ingredients. For hard ingredients like nuts or legumes, you need a strong blender, which tend to be more expensive. In our test results with the best blenders, you will find both budget and professional blenders.

The disadvantages of a blender

With most kitchen appliances on our website, it is pretty easy to name drawbacks, but with a blender we found this more difficult.

  • Blender takes up space
  • Blender makes a lot of noise – especially when grinding hard ingredients like nuts.
  • Ingredients sometimes get stuck, requiring you to stop the blender first.

Conclusion: to buy or not to buy a blender?

If you don’t already have a blender in your home, but would like to cook more or live healthier, a blender is highly recommended. There are almost no disadvantages of a blender and they are also very cheap. Our advice, though, is to buy a blender with several accessories including mixing bowl for nuts. If you only have one mixing bowl, the possibilities are somewhat limited
