Cleaning a deep-fat fryer? The deep fryer is used in many households. It is also heartily delicious, in its time. Yet cleaning it is not everyone’s favourite chore. This is not surprising either, the deep-frying fat that has burned in can sometimes be really desperately annoying.
Whereas preparing food in the deep fryer is incredibly easy, cleaning it is not so good. Nevertheless, there are a number of tips to make sure you turn that tedious chore into a slightly easier job. Today I will take you through those tips.
What is the best way to clean them?
There are a number of ways you can clean your deep fryer. So how do you do it best?
Detergent
Dish soap is in itself a great method because it has a degreasing effect and can therefore be used to clean the inside of the pan and also the basket. To do this, fill the sink with water, add a little detergent and clean the parts with a highly concentrated detergent.
It’s easy, the downside is just that it takes time. In addition, stubborn dirt is a little more difficult to remove. Also, the hot water and detergent may need to be replaced several times. But if you clean the fryer regularly then it doesn’t have to be that difficult at all. Often if you don’t clean it for a long time it’s a tedious job, if you do it regularly it’s not too bad.
Dishwasher tablet
Then another way to clean your deep fryer, the dishwasher. There are some parts that are dishwasher-safe. Do check the instructions for this. This may in fact differ from one manufacturer to another. It is important to be sure about the prescription and which parts can and cannot go in the dishwasher.
Soda
If your fryer is not dishwasher-safe, you can also clean it with baking soda. This is a fairly effective cleaner that can also get rid of caked-on dirt and grease. You fill it around 75% with water and then add a few tablespoons of baking soda to the pan. You leave this for around 10 minutes.
Then you can turn it off again and empty the contents into the sink. At least then you’ll get it nice and clean on the inside, and the outside a bit easier, you don’t need baking soda for that!
However, be very careful with the dosage of soda, too much sofa can seriously damage the fryer and shorten its lifespan.
Deep fryer cleaner
Then finally, you can try the DIY solutions, these often work pretty well. But there are also cleaning products specifically for the deep fryer these days. These are specially made with a view to reducing certain effects that DIY solutions can have such as corroding the pan and shortening its lifespan.
Regularity and routine
Deep-frying fat is hugely stubborn, which is why cleaning a deep fryer is not the most fun job. In fact, stubborn dirt during dishwashing is every professional cook’s worst nightmare, so it is really understandable that you don’t like cleaning the fryer.
However, if you clean the deep fryer regularly, the chore will become a lot less tedious. Besides, if it is part of the routine instead of being put in the cupboard immediately after frying, it also becomes a kind of habituation and that also helps against you finding it a tedious chore to do.
