You’re about to buy a new airfryer, but which model best suits your needs? On the Internet and in stores you will come across XL, XXL and even XXXL airfryers. To make the choice easy for you, in this article we explain the differences between an airfryer XL and XXL.
Philips is the inventor of Airfryers and was also the first brand to distinguish between XL and XXL airfryers. Since then, an awful lot of brands have been added, think Princess, Tefal, Inventum and Tristar. These brands also use the terms XL, XXL and sometimes even XXXL. The meaning of XL and XXL vary from brand to brand, which is why we will focus on Philips Airfryers in this article.
The size
As you could probably have guessed, XL and XXL denote the size of the airfryer. But what exactly is the difference?
XL airfryer
This one has a load capacity of 1.2 kilograms, which is enough for a family of 3 to 4 people. Note that an XL airfryer is less suitable for larger dishes such as a casserole. Of course, the XL airfryer takes up less space.
XXL airfryer
With an XXL airfryer, you have a loading capacity of 1.4 kilograms which is enough for a family of 4 – 5 people. The advantage of an XXL airfryer is that you can also use it to prepare larger dishes such as a whole chicken. Keep in mind that an XXL airfryer can take up quite a bit of space on the counter.
XL or XXL: what can you prepare with it?
As we indicated earlier in this article, an XXL airfryer is better suited for larger dishes. This is not only because of the larger size, but also because there are more accessories available for an XXL airfryer from Philips. For example, with a Philips XXL airfryer you can bake a pizza, grill a whole fish and make complete meals – something more difficult with an Airfryer XL because there are no accessories for it. So you can actually cook anything in an XXL airfryer.
Baking results & the technology
If Coolblue is to be believed, the results of an XXL airfryer are more crispy than with an XL airfryer. Whether this is really so, we dare not say but it seems to us strong that the size has an influence on this. Most Philips XXL airfryers do use Twin Turbo Star technology, which draws off excess fat immediately – which should result in crispy results and a less greasy bite.
Rapid Air Technology or Twin Turbostar
Philips XL airfryers use the oldest technology which consists of a single fan. The air is blown into the airfryer, while in an XXL the air is sucked in. The advantage of the new technology Twin Turbostar (found in the XXL airfryer) is that the results are even better and the result is less fat.
Conclusion: buying an XL or XXL airfryer?
Your choice actually depends on two questions: how much food do you want to prepare at once? For a large family of more than 4 people I recommend an XXL airfryer, but a small household will be fine with an XL airfryer. In addition, let it depend on what you want to do with the airfryer. If you only use it for French fries and simple dishes then the XL airfryer is a fine choice. Do you think you will use the airfryer a lot and don’t want to be limited with the options? Then opt for an Airfryer XXL.
